Design Engineer
A professional engineer, working as part of a small R&D team involved in the design and manufacture of intelligent electricity monitoring and energy management systems. The multi-faceted role will involve mechanical and electronic hardware design and embedded C for micro-controller based products for commercial and industrial markets. Design must be carried out to international standards meeting rapidly changing sales targets.
The role requires the management of projects from concept to completion including the following tasks:
- Product specification.
- Component sourcing.
- Analogue/digital hardware design.
- Schematic drafting.
- PCB layout.
- Maintenance of Bills of Materials and associated production documentation.
- Embedded C development and documentation.
- Prototype building/testing.
- Technical authoring.
- Production engineering.
- Development/supervision of test/calibration systems.
- Internal/external product support.
- Management of product approvals to international standards.
Key skills and experience required includes:
- Knowledge of three-phase power systems.
- Analogue/digital electronic hardware design/development (micro-controllers, precision amplifiers, power supplies, discreet circuits, interfaces etc).
- Design to achieve stringent EMC/Safety standards approval.
- Embedded software development (MSP430, PIC, ARM Cortex, C, C++, assembler).
- Knowledge of communications systems (Ethernet TCP-IP, Modbus, Profi-bus, CCLink etc).
- PC software development (Microsoft dotnet, C, C++, VB, ASP).
- Mechanical engineering design/drafting (AutoCAD).
- Technical authoring in English (MS Word).
- Competence in PC based office tools (Word, Excel, Access etc).
Person Specification
Candidates should be educated to a minimum of degree level in electronic/electrical engineering or similar discipline with a desire to continuously improve and a willingness to train in new competencies. A very high level of self motivation and the ability to work as part of a team are both essential. Candidates should show creative flair and be able to bring new ideas to the table.
Experience of project management and/or people management are both highly desirable.
